Located in downtown Denver on the corner of 17th St. and Wazee St., Jax Fish House has been named one of Denver’s best seafood restaurants. Chef Sheila Lucero creates a menu of regional dishes, and fresh fish is flown in daily. Not only is the seafood fresh, but don’t forget about their creative wet bar and fresh oyster bar (this month just happens to be oyster month).
Their menu consisted of three courses. For the first course, my friend and I ordered Chicken and Crawfish Gumbo and Prince Edward Island Mussels. Both fresh and full of flavor. For the main course we ordered Spaghetti Puttanesca and Grilled Idaho Trout. The puttanesca sauce had a wonderful wine flavor and was filled/topped with clams, mussels, squid and fresh fish. Only complaint, too much squid. The Trout was grilled and topped with an apple puree placed on top red potato hash and chard. Neither were lacking in flavor or presentation. For the third course, we answered our sweet tooth by indulging in a Key Lime Tart accompanied by whipped cream and macerated berries as well as a Fleur De Sel Caramel Brownie with mascarpone ice cream. Only one thing can describe these… Mmmmmm!
Nothing about Jax Fish House restaurant week menu disappointed, and their relaxed, fishy atmosphere was perfect. Each table was even accompanied by crayons and paper covering the table. Eating, drinking and drawing. Gratification.
